In Loving Memory of Keith Eric Ifill
Born on June 5, 1950, Keith Eric Ifill passed away on April 11, 2024, at the age of 73.
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Keith Eric Ifill, who left us peacefully on the morning of April 11, 2024, at his home in Rosedale, New York. Surrounded by the love of his family, Keith’s departure marks the end of an era filled with laughter, adventure, and unwavering dedication to those he loved.
Born in the heart of St. Joseph, Trinidad & Tobago, on June 5, 1950, to Eric Downes Ifill and Sylvia Ifill, Keith was the cornerstone of a large, vibrant family. As one of eleven siblings, his role extended beyond just a brother to Claudette Ifill (deceased), Neil Ifill, Barbara Scott, Patsy Ifill, Jeffrey Ifill, Neville Ifill, Arlene Ifill, Charmaine Ifill, Gerard Ifill, and Camille Ifill, to that of a leader and mentor.
From an early age, Keith was a spirited child, often described by his mother as a challenge, though to others, he was a quick learner and endlessly fun-loving. His childhood was marked by a passion for comic books and a profound love for food, from macaroni pie and ice cream to dumplings, cow heel soup, and provision—tastes that hinted at the zest with which he lived his entire life.
Keith’s life was a balance of hard work and hearty play. He relished the moments spent hanging out embracing the simple pleasures of life with enthusiasm. A lover of children, Keith’s joy was most palpable when playing with his youngest family members, especially his cherished Arya-Marie, who brought immense happiness to his later years.
Keith’s journey led him to cross paths with his beloved wife, Joan Elizabeth Abraham-Ifill, during his tenure at the Water & Sewage Authority in Trinidad. Her inspiration was a beacon that guided him to New York in 1994, where he continued his career at Peykar Rugs. Known for his work ethic, Keith seamlessly transitioned from being a valued employee to a cherished friend and an integral part of the Peykar family.
Keith was a father to fourteen children from a previous marriage and other relationships. His legacy includes his children Cathy-Ann Llewellyn, Ellis Ifill, Sherwin Ifill, Michelle Ifill-Roseau, Avlon Ifill (deceased), Avion Ifill, Lovion Ifill, Shervionne Ifill, Cassie Richards, Shenelle Maraj, Joanna Williams, Adanna, Chantal, Brent, and Nigel. He was also a stepfather and a guiding force to Sherissa and Shane Khan. As a grandfather to eighteen, including Amanda, Anastasia, Andrea, Atiba, Akeela, Matthew, Genesis, Tyesha, Kaya, Shakeela, Elijah, Sherona, Paris, Olivia, Zahra, Shaniqua, Ayden, Arya-Marie, and as a great-grandfather to Giovanni, Kayson, Jeremy, Jubilee, Jason, Jamer, Alaine, Demir, Mekhai, Keyomi, Kash, Khairo, and others, Keith’s commitment to family and his boundless love for each generation were evident.
Affectionately known as “Jap,” Keith’s presence was a source of calm and joy. His infectious spirit was evident in his love for driving, his mastery of card games, particularly ‘all fours,’ and his dedication to his Trini roots, embodying the vibrant culture of his homeland until his final moments.
Keith was renowned for his strong work ethic and his genuine nature. He was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back to help others, and he cherished the time spent with family and friends. Never one to hold grudges or speak ill of others, Keith’s open-heartedness was central to who he was—even if his frank expressions when upset left no one in doubt of his feelings.
Keith’s life was one of adventure, service, and most importantly, love. His immeasurable impact on everyone he encountered was marked by his kindness, generosity, and the ability to bring people together in both celebration and support.
As we say goodbye to Keith, we are reminded of his indomitable spirit and the lessons he taught us through his example. Keith’s journey on earth has ended, but his story will continue to inspire all who knew him.
May his soul rest in everlasting peace, and may his family find comfort in the legacy of the love he leaves behind. Keith Eric Ifill, a true Trini to the bone, will forever be cherished in our hearts and memories.
Rest in peace, beloved Keith.
