Allan V. Baxter

1934 - 2025

(Vivian) Allan Andrew Baxter was born to Hilda Baxter and husband on November 8th, 1934,
in Diego Martin Trinidad West Indies where he grew up with his brother Merrill and sister
Glenda. After completing school, he worked at the Guardian Newspaper as a lino typist for
several years. At age 20, he met Irma Christina Ewing the young lady that would later
become his wife. Being the gentleman that he was, Allan wrote a letter to Harold and Laura
Ewing asking for their permission to get engaged to their daughter Irma, they were married
two years later in 1958. Allan and Irma had three children Brian, Allison and Lindon all born
in Trinidad.
Allan migrated to the United States in 1967 answering an ad to work on the long Island
newspaper in New York. He worked on the paper for a few years. The family later joined him
in Jamaica Queens New York in 1968 after purchasing his first home with his sister-in-law
Verna Hall. This made the entire family comfortable including his mother-in-law, brothers
in law and sisters-in-law. He then worked with the Kalex Plastics Company for several
years. He then accepted a job as a bus driver with the MTA at Fresh Pond Depot in Brooklyn
New York from which he then retired in 1993. In the 70’s Allan was baptized and joined the
Spiritual Baptist faith continuing to grow in both faith and studies he obtained a degree in
Theology with Meger Evers College and continued his ministry in the Spiritual Baptist
church. He worked diligently and was elevated to the rank of Bishop and became one of
the leaders of Mount Tabor Spiritual Baptist Church in Brooklyn.
Allan wore a many hats including Scout Master, Church Leader. Counselor and Mentor in
the Ministry and Bible class teacher. He was also the chief and editor of the Spiritual
Baptist Faith Magazine. Allan also traveled to the Caribbean, the Orient, and Africa
spreading the word of God; this was the thing he loved most.
Allan is survived by his wife of 67 years Irma, their three children Brian, Allison and Lindon,
grandchildren Russell, Alanna, Kyle and Franklyn with great grandchildren Tyler and
Christopher. His sister Glenda and a host of nieces ,nephews, grand nieces and nephews,
2 brothers in law and a host of friends and family.
