Sheree- Monique Sythia Watson
1979 - 2024Dr. Sheree-Monique S. Watson, 44, of Queens, New York, passed away on November 27, 2024, after a decades-long battle with cancer.
Sheree was born on December 20, 1979, to Michael and Catherine Watson in Kingston, Jamaica. After she graduated high school from Phillips Exeter Academy, she went on to study Biology at Brown University and then obtained an MD from Columbia University. Sheree did her residency in pediatrics at the combined program of Boston Children’s Hospital (Harvard University) and Boston Medical Center (Boston University). She was months shy of completing her fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology at Hasbro’s Children Hospital (Brown University).
Early in her career, Sheree worked as a pediatrician. Recently, she worked for LiveOnNY, NYC’s organ procurement organization. Being an organ recipient herself, organ donation was a cause dear to her heart. She also worked in helping develop the incipient field of letterlocking.
Sheree lived life to the fullest. She was a track athlete in high school and college and ran multiple half marathons. Her passion for performance arts led her to participate in many shows including various Shakespeare in the Park plays. Her adventurous spirit inspired her to try rock climbing, mountain biking and white-water rafting. Sheree loved traveling, visiting museums, listening to music, and playing word games.
Sheree met her husband and soulmate Juan Puyo, while they were graduate students at Columbia University in 2002. They shared an ironclad bond of love for 22 years.
Sheree is survived by her husband, Juan Puyo, mother, Catherine Watson, brother, sister, and sister-in-law, Locksley Plummer, Jennifer Watson, and Wendy Williams, niece and nephew, Beyanka and Nhoj Plummer, as well as many aunties and uncles.
A service to celebrate Sheree’s life will be held on December 9 at 11:00 a.m. in Trinity-St. John’s Church in Hewlett, NY. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The LiveOnNY Foundation, to support organ donation education and awareness.
