Neville Aubrey Vin Reid (Classic) was born on May 9, 1951, to parents Vincent Sylvester Reid and Dula Mae Reid in Jamaica West Indies.

Neville died peacefully at home on January 16, 2026, in New York.

Neville attended William Knibb Preparatory School, passed the common entrance examination and attained a Government Scholarship to Wolmer’s Boys High School in Kingston, Jamaica, W.I. He entered The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Campus, Jamaica, where he graduated with a BSc in Natural Sciences. Neville decided to pursue a degree in Law and studied at the UWI, Cave Hill Campus, Barbados graduating with a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) in 1976. He then attended the Norman Manley Law School and in 1978 attained the Certificate of Legal Education. He was called to the Bar as an Attorney-at-Law in Jamaica.

Neville migrated to the United States and lived in New York where he continued his legal career. He worked as an Assistant District Attorney in Queens County District Attorney office. After serving as an Assistant District Attorney for several years, Neville left to start his own private practice, Neville Reid and Associates. He was an excellent attorney, specializing in Criminal law, Real Estate Transactions, Wills, and Matrimonial cases. His passion for criminal law led him to represent many clients who were charged with very serious matters. He represented his clients zealously, passionately and provided the best legal representation that they could get from an attorney. He was an orator. His summations were the best. He could speak for hours without looking at notes. His clients certainly had the best Criminal lawyer to represent them.

It was during his work as an attorney in Queens Criminal Court that he met his true-life partner, fellow attorney Hettie Powell. Together for the past 28 years, they built a life of love, commitment and support. Hettie was his caregiver and was by his side when he passed away. Neville was a devoted father to his son, Marcus Reid. He was Marcus’ custodial parent, and he made sure that Marcus received the best education, life skills and emotional support always. They travelled together and they have a bond that only a father and son could know. He was a caring brother to Carl, loyal to his friends and a loving spouse.

His strength, integrity and compassion were evident in everything he did. He earned respect as a lawyer, due to his professionalism and commitment to principles. He showed us the importance of staying true to ourselves and living life with a purpose. He was a fun-loving person with a great sense of humour. His radiant smile and positive energy left a lasting impact on those he met. His legacy of kindness, integrity, generosity and love will remain within our hearts forever.
