Shapiro Al Lecorps was born on October 22, 1973, to Alfred and Marie Lecorps. As the eldest of
three children, he grew up with a strong sense of responsibility and love for his family. After
graduating from Richmond Hill High School, he pursued medical studies in Mexico before
realizing his true calling lay elsewhere. He returned to the United States, attended City
University, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.
In 2003, Shapiro proudly joined the New York City Police Department, where he dedicated 20
years of service to the people of New York City. During his distinguished career, he served in
Narcotics, Transit, the 67th Precinct, and the 78th Precinct, retiring as a Police Sergeant in
2023. He was respected for his integrity, leadership, and commitment to serving others.
The greatest joy of Shapiro’s life was his family. He met his beloved wife, Paula Wilson, in the
summer of 1989 while they were both working at JFK Airport. They married in April 2005 and
built a life filled with love and devotion. Together they welcomed their daughter, Lauryn, in 2007
and their son, Shane, in 2013, who were his greatest pride.
Outside of work, Shapiro had a deep love for music, enjoyed watching the latest horror films,
and found peace in working out in his home gym. One of his favorite past times was playing
chess with his daughter, creating memories they both cherished.
Shapiro passed away unexpectedly on June 27, 2026. He will be remembered for his kindness,
strength, unwavering dedication to his family, and honorable service to his community. He was
preceded in death by his beloved brother, Alfred Jr. “Freddy”, who passed away in 2010. He
leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Paula; his children, Lauryn and Shane;
his parents, Alfred and Marie; his sister, Shiram Herrera; his nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts,
cousins, in-laws, extended family, friends, and former colleagues.
Though he is no longer with us, his love, guidance, and legacy will forever remain in the hearts
of those who knew and loved him.
